Wedding Floral Centerpieces: Tips to Save

Are you looking for ways to save money on your wedding floral centerpieces?  I have been helping friends with their weddings over the last few years and have picked up on a few tips and tricks to reduce the costs.
Most wedding planners and experts will tell you to plan on spending about 12-14% of your budget on the flowers, that is a big chunk of your budget.  However, with these ideas you should only plan on spending 8-10%; this includes not only your wedding floral centerpieces but also the bouquet, boutonnières, and miscellaneous floral decor.

The first thing you want to do to save money is be prepared.  Most florists try to get you to spend on your wedding by playing the emotion card, but if you go in there with a budget and a few ideas of what you want then that will help you stick to your budget.

The second thing you can do is cut back.  Have less in your wedding party.  Less bridesmaids and groomsman the less bouquets and boutonnieres you need.  Also if you cut the guest list you will need fewr tables and fewer wedding floral centerpieces.  Also if you have a choice on the table size go with larger tables, more people will fit and you will only need one center piece.

Another big thing is to choose the right flowers.  Make sure you go with blossoms that are in-season.  Also stick with flowers that easy to get.  There are some flowers that no matter the season will really run up the cost of the arrangement.  Some include; calla lilies, magnolias, orchids, and hydrangeas.  However there are colorful flowers that are reasonably priced no matter the season as well like; lavender, daffodils, carnations, daisies and ivy.

If your budget is really tight then one last thing to think about is the wedding floral centerpieces.  Maybe you should only have half the tables with flowers and the other half with something less expensive.  Or only put flowers on the head table and something else on all the guest tables.

With these ideas in hand planning and arranging the flowers for your wedding should be easier and less costly.

I do not like real flowers at all. I plan to use silk flowers. Do you think that would be a problem?

Not at all, silk flowers are often cheaper and you could always sell them or reuse them after wards.
