Pros & Cons Of Tall Wedding Centerpieces

The planning’s going well, and the theme for the decorations is now organized, so your thoughts now turn to the ‘what and how’ of the centerpieces for the day. In particular, the issue of whether to have small or the lately fashionable tall centerpieces may arise so, to help you decide, here’s a quick look at the pros and cons:

Pros:

  • The point of a centerpiece is that it is noticed, and what better way to do this than to have a tall centerpiece, particularly on the top table, that can be easily seen and appreciated by the guests.
  • If the venue has been chosen for sentimental or economy reasons and is in itself slightly tatty or plain, tall centerpieces that command attention can act as a distraction to other less than perfect elements of the surroundings.
  • If you favor a ‘less is more’ approach, then a couple of tall, individual
centerpieces sensitively placed to dress the room may be more effective than having a significant number of smaller ones. It may also work out cheaper in the long run and mean that you can concentrate on the specifics of how you want them to look, rather than how many you can get for your budget.

Cons:

  • Depending on the room layout, tall centerpieces may just dominate too much. Think about when guests are seated – will they be able to see each other around centerpieces over a certain height?
  • Small centerpieces tend to lend themselves more easily to being re-used or even given away as favors to special guests: it is much harder to re-home a taller piece, so these may end up being quite an expensive one-use purchase.
  • Transportation to the designated venue may be more of an issue with tall centerpieces – it may be a two person job to transport, carry and set these up, making them a much more time consuming choice. Additionally, tall items need to be well set up so that they are not vulnerable to knocks or breakage, so this should be considered as well.

Finally though, any choice should be made in the context of your venue and number of guests as a whole. If it’s going to be a small venue and a tight-fit, tall wedding centerpieces will easily take over or get knocked over, whereas in a large venue, they can add focus and ‘bring in’ more isolated corners of the room – context is everything so by considering this too, you will soon come up with your own list of the pros and cons of having tall wedding centerpieces for your own special day!
